Richard Baderin, Leith Healthcare's Managing Director tells us about why the company was launched and shares his views on what makes Leith different
Richard Baderin, Managing Director of Leith Healthcare, explains why the recently launched company that’s on a mission to provide the UK life-sciences market with a fresh, flexible approach to commercialisation, is such an important evolution for the industry.
Richard, tell us a bit about CHASE and Leith Healthcare.
“Leith Healthcare is a sister company to CHASE and is named after the port district of Edinburgh, where CHASE is based. As a group we’ve been helping some of the top life-sciences companies launch in the UK since our foundation; finding the right talent to join companies, providing flexible contract sales and patient support solutions, and supporting jointly delivered industry and NHS partnership projects”.
Why did CHASE decide to launch Leith Healthcare?
“We have seen first-hand the opportunities that exist in the UK for products that bring patient benefits, but also the challenges that development and originator companies face in launching successfully; whether going-it alone or trying to secure the right out-licensing partner, particularly where the UK commercialisation landscape is new to them. What this often means is that some smaller but still vital value-adding products don’t get to reach UK clinicians and patients. That’s where Leith Healthcare fits in”.
So, what makes Leith Healthcare different?
“Since setting up the Brand Strategy and Management division within CHASE in 2021, we’ve been increasingly supporting companies with launch planning and operations and have discussed partnerships options with several companies launching in the UK for the first time. We recognised that with our marketing and sales capabilities, combined with our ability to provide customer-facing resource solutions, we could provide a great partnership option for companies that wanted to launch in the UK. In some of my previous roles, leading on global brands for blue-chip pharma companies and developing brand outsourcing and consultancy business units, I saw first-hand how there was a real need for alternative approaches to bringing medical innovations to the UK. We formed Leith Healthcare to operate as a distinct company to partner with life-sciences companies to operationalise and invest in the launch of their products in the UK”.
Finally, tell us about the types of partnerships Leith Healthcare is forming.
“We look to partner on products with peak sales potential of up to £20m/yr, as these are the products we believe we can make the most positive difference for. We bring a level of commercial expertise to these products that is often not available through a traditional out-licensing or distribution arrangement, with a model that gives partner companies similar benefits to a licensing agreement. It’s an exciting time for the industry, as we see the emergence of new innovative health technology and we believe that Leith Healthcare is excellently placed to be a pivotal part in delivering some of these innovations to patients who need them.”
